Venue manager - nz festival of the arts

In November of 2019 I accepted a role to manage TSB Auditorium (Shed 6) for the upcoming New Zealand Festival of the Arts. This all-encompassing role comprises all management responsibilities for a high-volume performance venue during the 2020 NZ Festival season.

The line-up at Shed 6 ranges from local favourites like Nadia Reid, to the "Electric Blue Witch-Hop" of Estère, to the still-evolving The Brief and Frightening Reign of Phil, a musical satire co-written by Festival curator, Bret McKenzie (Flight of the Conchords).

Project Manager - drinkable Rivers

This is currently the cornerstone project in my freelance portfolio, comprising 20+ hours each week. As Project Manager and Co-Founder of this community-led movement, I am working with the Drinkable Rivers team to engage Christchurch residents, schools, and community groups to make the rivers of Aotearoa New Zealand drinkable, starting with a flourishing Avon River/Ōtākaro by 2026.

This is an extensive, multidisciplinary role which involves the definition and implementation of all of the project’s strategy and communications including the complete design and build of the Drinkable Rivers website, the creation of Strategic and Annual Plans, writing funding applications and supporting documentation, the establishment and maintenance of a multi-platform Drinkable Rivers social media presence, and the coordination, promotion, and delivery of a range of community and educational events. A major component of my work in 2020 is the development of a pilot kaitiakitanga programme for local schools.

sound designer - Our Stories

In this casual freelance role, I craft, score, and edit audio interviews into compelling stories for use on the Our Stories platform, a location-based, GPS-triggered mobile application. This community storytelling project features school children interviewing older residents; its pilot, Lyttelton Stories, is now operational as a guided walking tour in the Lyttelton township.

Using raw audio supplied by Our Stories, I designed a number of multi-narrative stories for the app’s launch in 2017 and was invited back to update and add additional content for a re-launch event in late 2019. Funding discussions are in progress to expand this fantastic project into additional geographical areas with new audio content. Watch this space!

event manager - startup christchurch

In this casual freelance role, I coordinate, plan, and deliver a range of events for Startup Christchurch, a community of early-stage startup entrepreneurs working in Christchurch. The biggest event in the annual calendar is Startup Weekend Christchurch, which I most recently helped to deliver in September of 2019.

Venue manager - Word Christchurch

In this ad-hoc freelance role, I have delivered a range of literary events for Word Christchurch since 2017, most notably in my role as Venue Manager for Isaac Theatre Royal and The Arts Centre Gym during the 2018 WORD Festival.
